Custom Mitral Valve Ring
A mitral valve ring or band is needed for mitral valve repair surgery, which may require the surgeon to reshape the patient's heart valve. The ring is made up of durable plastic, metal, and fabric. The surgeon will add support to the valve annulus by sewing a mitral valve ring around the outside of the valve.
Image Reconstruction and Segmentation
Slicer is applied to load the CT image and segment the heart to be treated. Unnecessary tissue is removed using the island's effect and the scissor's effect. Figure 1 shows the reconstructed 3D model with example MRI images on three different anatomical planes. Figure 2 shows the 3D model after segmentation.
CAD of the sewing ring
The segmented heart is imported into Fusion 360. Sewing ring is fabricated based on the shape of valve. Figure 1 shows the heart with sewing ring. Figure 2 shows the ring only.
